Our Managing Director, Chris Massey is the inventor of all our unique construction safety products – and many have won awards. But it’s not just our products that receive recognition within the industry – at last year’s Building Innovation Awards, Chris was crowned Innovation Champion.
Some of our greatest advocates are our clients who use these inventions and fully recognise their benefits. Products include ALIMATS®, Hole Covers, Safety Net Recovery System, SLAPP Clamp, Instant Pipe Shutter, Stacker Packers and Shutter Clip.
Here’s some feedback we’ve had this month on three of our most popular products.
ALIMATS® are very easy for two people to move around and put into place. Steel pads are heavy and have to be craned into position which is an expensive option – whereas ALIMATS® is a cost-effective solution. For some of our projects we have to hire different crane sizes, but with ALIMATS® we can use the same size mats to create different configurations. We would definitely use them again.

Over the last 6 to 7 years, we’ve hired different mat sizes from the ALIMATS® range. What’s consistently good, is the service we get from the Brilliant Ideas team. If we need to hire at short notice, it’s never a problem – you can guarantee one of their drivers will arrive on site the next day with an ALIMATS® delivery – we appreciate that. Another plus is the FORS Bronze accreditation they have for their delivery vehicles, which some of our clients ask for, especially for MOD sites. The system is lightweight and can easily be offloaded by hand – so we don’t need to rely on a telehandler. It’s a trusted solution which we offer to our clients. As far as we’re concerned, there’s no alternative on the market.

We’ve been using ALIMATS® for about five years. They are by far the best distribution of outriggers – they bring the loadings down significantly. It’s a far better system than Ekki mats and other conventional systems. ALIMATS® come with handles, they’re lightweight and easy to move around. Brilliant Ideas are competitive on price too, it’s a good rate when you consider the product you get. There’s lots of flexibility around hiring them – from one day to longer-term hires. Their customer service is very efficient and they’re good to do business with – they always deliver when they say they will. If I need ALIMATS to be on site at 5am, that’s when their driver will be there. We’ve never had to wait for them to turn up.
Capital Steel
Brilliant Ideas Hole Covers are really handy. You can put them down, lift them up and reuse them. In the past we’ve cut up timber, but these don’t last and they’re a trip hazard. The Hole Covers are bright yellow, so you can’t miss them and they’re pretty much flush with the floor, making them a much safer option.

We use Hole Covers on most projects where we have to drill holes in slabs to pass the services through. These are quick and easy to install and remove and a much better option than covering off the whole area. Open service holes on site pose trip hazards and injury, so we use these covers for their safety aspect on precast and cast-in-situ floors. Whenever we place an order, the team are always easy to deal with.
BAM Construction Ltd
We love how Stacker Packers interlock together, where four or six shims become one, to create a safe and stable shim stack. We know that the shims have been independently load tested and manufactured from certified material, so they are ideal for precast concrete stadia components. The interlocking side profile also enables adjustment which keeps the operatives hand away from the trapping zone. You can also interlock adjacent shims to create a larger bearing area. We’ve already used thousands of them on our Fulham Football Club development and we will be using them on our forthcoming projects. Stacker Packers is a great product.
